‘Be comfortable in your own identity’ – Agassi’s advice to Raducanu

BBC Sport · 34 minutes ago

Emma Raducanu is drawing inspiration from Andre Agassi’s autobiography as she seeks to rebuild her tennis career after injuries and illness. Agassi, who recovered from a world ranking of 141 to win all four Grand Slam tournaments, advised her to focus on daily progress rather than judging herself by results.

Raducanu, 23, rose to world number 10 after winning the 2021 US Open but has since fallen to 98th and missed this year’s US Open with a stress fracture. She reached the Queen’s Club final in June, while Agassi also stressed the importance of developing an identity independent of public opinion and allowing young players to find their own path.

  • Raducanu is rebuilding after injuries and a drop in rankings.
  • Agassi urged her to focus on daily progress, not results.
  • He said athletes should remain comfortable with their own identity.
