Be For Films Acquires Ione Hernández Sáenz’s ‘Sisters’ Ahead of Toronto Premiere (EXCLUSIVE)
Brussels-based sales agent Be For Films has acquired international sales rights to "Sisters" ("Hermanas"), the debut fiction feature from Spanish director Ione Hernández Sáenz, ahead of its premiere in the Discovery section at the Toronto Film Festival. The deal gives the film international market exposure at a major festival launchpad, marking a significant step for a first-time feature director whose earlier short films and documentary work have already drawn critical recognition in Spain.
The film follows sisters Chelo and Marta as an unexpected event over one summer forces old family wounds to resurface, testing their bond and confronting them with a painful choice about how far to go to protect loved ones, even at the cost of other family ties. The cast is led by Elena Anaya and Emma Suárez, with producers Lara Izagirre, Garazi Elorza, María Zamora, Jose E. Alenda and César E. Alenda working across production companies Solita Films, Gariza Films and Elastica Films, co-produced with ISB and co-financed by ICAA, Madrid City Hall, Eitb, HBO Max and Bizkaia Provincial Council. Hernández Sáenz, who also mentors on EFTI's Film Directing Master's programme in Madrid, won the Ventana CineMad First Prize for the project in 2021.
