Two visitors to Cornwall's Fistral Beach, a father and daughter from Doncaster, died after encountering difficulty in the sea on Sunday evening. Emergency services including the coastguard, police, and RNLI arrived at the scene near Newquay following reports that two people had been pulled from the water. An eyewitness commended the speed of the response, noting that police and ambulance crews appeared within minutes and a coastguard helicopter was deployed to assist.

Whilst the rapid emergency response was noted for its effectiveness, water safety officials have used the incident to highlight the risks of open water swimming. The RNLI's water safety manager described the deaths as a stark reminder of how dangerous unlifeguarded waters can be and encouraged the public to use beaches with active lifeguard cover. Police are continuing efforts to locate personal items belonging to the deceased woman that hold considerable sentimental value to her family.
