Beartooth’s Caleb Shomo tells us how he finally learned to love himself: “Be patient. Give yourself time, grace and stay on the path”
Beartooth frontman Caleb Shomo has discussed coming out as a gay man and the self-acceptance behind the band’s forthcoming sixth album, ‘Pure Ecstasy’. He said publicly addressing his sexuality, after homophobic comments about a music video, allowed him to take control of the situation and gave him greater peace of mind. The album matters as a continuation of his move from writing about poor mental health towards more openly embracing joy and self-love.
‘Pure Ecstasy’, released on Friday 28 August through Fearless Records, is Beartooth’s first album for the label and follows 2023’s ‘The Surface’. Its sound combines the band’s established heavy riffs and breakdowns with stronger pop-metal influences, drawing on soul artists including Al Green and Aretha Franklin, Prince, Metallica and Michael Jackson. Former Bring Me The Horizon member Jordan Fish co-wrote and produced material, while singles include ‘Free’, ‘Eyes Closed’, ‘Bullshit’ and the title track.
