Denton Police Chief George William Bacorn Jr, aged 62, has been killed in a head-on collision with a delivery truck in Maryland. The incident has deeply affected the local community, as Bacorn had served as chief for 36 years and was widely respected, prompting tributes from Maryland Governor Wes Moore and town officials. His death represents a significant loss to the town of Denton and the wider law enforcement community.

The crash occurred on Friday morning near Easton, Maryland, when a Ford Transit delivery truck driven by Antonio Jaquan Handy, 31, crossed the centre double yellow line whilst travelling in the opposite direction and struck Bacorn's Chevrolet Tahoe. Handy suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to a trauma centre, whilst the driver of a Silverado that the truck also struck remained unharmed. Maryland State Police are investigating the incident to determine whether charges should be filed against the delivery truck driver. In honour of Bacorn's service, a dignified escort of his remains took place on Sunday, with roads blocked and emergency responders lining the route as a final tribute.
