President Trump has banned three media organisations—CNN, MS NOW, and Politico—from White House access, with Attorney General Todd Blanche defending the measure on ABC News by characterising it as a response to a "national security problem" caused by false reporting and overwhelmingly negative coverage. The three outlets have filed a lawsuit challenging the ban, which has progressed rapidly despite a federal judge ruling that the ban was not based on genuine national security grounds.

During a heated interview with Martha Raddatz, Blanche argued that certain organisations' "wholly and completely, almost 100 percent negative" coverage of Trump constitutes a national security threat. He contended that whilst outlets may report as they choose, White House access is a privilege rather than a right, and the American public deserves news with "even a whiff of accuracy." Despite a court ruling allowing the outlets to resume access, journalists' credentials have continued to be confiscated, and major broadcasters including Fox News, NBC, CBS, and ABC have refused to participate in covering events in solidarity.
