Celtic began the defence of their Scottish Premiership title with a hard-fought 1-0 home win over Dundee, Benjamin Nygren's second-half header proving decisive. The victory continues Celtic's dominance of Scottish football, having now won the title 14 times in 15 seasons, with captain Callum McGregor unfurling the championship flag before kick-off at Parkhead.

Nygren, who scored 21 goals last season, headed in from close range in the 52nd minute after being set up by a Kieran Tierney cross, settling a match that had been tight and scrappy throughout. Celtic gave debuts to two new signings, striker Camilo Durán (£5.5m from Qarabag) and forward Kasper Høgh (a club-record £11m from Bodø/Glimt), while Steven Pressley's well-organised Dundee side, with keeper Owen Goodman also debuting, caused problems from crosses and set pieces before fading late on. Celtic also learned they will face Austrian champions LASK in the Champions League playoff round, with the first leg on 18/19 August.
