Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco celebrated their first wedding anniversary on 27 September by eating a slice of wedding cake they had preserved from their 2025 wedding ceremony in Santa Barbara, California. Blanco shared photographs of the cake on Instagram, captioning one "Year old cake never tasted so good" and another "1 year down… forever to go…" The couple have maintained a relatively low-key approach to their marriage over the past year and had planned to spend the anniversary relaxing after months of travel.

Blanco revealed that he was unaware of the cake-preservation tradition until Gomez's grandmother explained it to him. The couple's cake had an unusual backstory: whilst guest-hosting Today with Jenna & Sheinelle earlier in September, Blanco recalled that actor Martin Short had mistakenly eaten part of their small wedding cake at the reception, apparently confusing it for a decorative prop. Despite this setback, they managed to preserve six slices. Beyond their personal milestones, Gomez and Blanco have continued their musical collaboration, releasing the joint album I Said I Love You First in 2025 (which debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200) and recently appearing together on the track "Te Olvido (La La)" from Blanco's August 2026 album Hermoso.
