US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the United States and China had agreed to extend their bilateral trade truce, known as the Busan agreement, until 10 January. He said the extension would provide more time for discussions on economic issues, while also addressing the continuing conflict involving Iran and Washington’s pressure campaign against Tehran.

Bessent outlined three possible outcomes for the Iran conflict: divisions within the regime, an uprising by the Iranian people, or negotiations leading to an agreement. He said the Treasury’s Operation Economic Outcast was targeting Iran’s financial networks and foreign supporters, and claimed that 80–90% of external flights from Iran had been disrupted. Bessent also proposed a US-China system for notifying each other about potentially dangerous artificial-intelligence incidents, including cyber and biological threats.
