Bethesda’s Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters won’t stop the modders who’ve already spent years recreating the RPGs in Fallout 4

Bethesda's newly confirmed remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas will not halt long-running fan projects that have spent years recreating both RPGs inside Fallout 4's engine, according to statements from the modding teams involved. This matters because it echoes what happened with Skyblivion after Oblivion Remastered was announced, showing that dedicated modding communities tend to continue their work regardless of official remasters, rather than being rendered redundant by them.

The team behind The Capital Wasteland Project, which recreates Fallout 3 in Fallout 4, said it was "incredibly excited" about the official remaster but confirmed development would continue, stressing it is unaffiliated with Bethesda; the project has already released a full recreation of the Point Lookout DLC in 2022 and regularly puts out smaller content updates. Similarly, moderators for the Fallout 4: New Vegas mod said via Discord that a remaster "will not affect project development in any way," with project lead Metamoth backing that stance. Bethesda's remaster announcements are seen as a departure from its usual secrecy, possibly linked to Microsoft's recent layoffs, though a Fallout 3 remaster had previously been hinted at in documents leaked during Microsoft's FTC court case.
