Betty McGuire, Actress on Broadway and ‘Growing Pains,’ Dies at 100

Betty McGuire, the Broadway performer and actor who played Kate Malone, the mother of Maggie Seaver, on Growing Pains, has died aged 100. She died of natural causes on 8 October at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, according to family friend Keith Gerchak.

McGuire appeared in 12 episodes of Growing Pains between 1986 and 1991 and had a 70-year career across theatre, television and film. Her three Broadway productions included Plain and Fancy, Happy Hunting and Oh, Captain!; she also appeared in Up in Smoke and Coma, and volunteered for years supporting low-income tenants facing eviction.
