Beyoncé Remembers Dolly Parton as “Bold and Brilliant” in Touching Tribute

The Hollywood Reporter · 3 hours ago

Beyoncé has paid tribute to Dolly Parton following the country music icon's death at age 80 on Tuesday, praising her as "bold and brilliant" and "the barometer, the north star" in a heartfelt statement posted to her website. The tribute reflects the close creative bond between the two stars, cemented through their collaboration on Beyoncé's 2024 album Cowboy Carter, which later won the Grammy for Album of the Year.

Parton featured on the album's spoken-word track "Dolly P", referencing her own 1973 hit "Jolene" before Beyoncé's reimagined cover of the song appeared later on the record. Parton had previously praised Beyoncé's bold rewrite of the lyrics, saying she admired how the singer reworked the song's narrative. Parton died peacefully in Nashville after a brief battle with cancer, with tributes also pouring in from figures including Billy Ray Cyrus, Jane Fonda, Reba McEntire and Kacey Musgraves.
