The funds arrive after a derecho storm tore through northwest and north-central Indiana, causing widespread destruction and leaving more than 1,000 people without homes, prompting a federal major disaster declaration.

The donation will fund urgent relief and recovery work in the worst-affected areas, including the city of Gary, covering food, household supplies and other essential items for affected families. The storm brought high winds, tornadoes, hail and flash flooding, resulting in major power outages, property damage and evacuations across the state. This follows a broader pattern of philanthropy from Beyoncé, who recently gave $1 million towards earthquake relief in Colombia.
