“Because of You Ka Kui”, a documentary about late Beyond frontman Wong Ka Kui, will open the sixth Odyssey Film Festival in the UK. The Hong Kong film has also been acquired for UK distribution by NGO UK-China Film Collab, extending its reach beyond its earlier Asian theatrical release.

Directed by Rosa Pang, the documentary combines interviews, rare concert recordings and previously unseen archive footage to trace Wong’s life, music and influence before his death in a 1993 accident aged 31. The festival runs from 28 September to 10 October in cinemas and online, with this year’s #Fashion theme exploring the links between music, identity, youth culture and style; one interview was filmed in London.
