Biden ghostwriter tapes to be released

NPR · 1 hour ago

Former President Joe Biden has dropped his legal attempt to prevent the release of audio recordings and transcripts of conversations with the ghostwriter of his memoir. The decision clears the way for the Trump Justice Department to provide the material to a Republican-led congressional committee and the conservative Heritage Foundation, following an appeals court ruling that favoured disclosure.

The interviews took place before Biden became president and were examined during the investigation into his handling of classified documents. A divided three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled 2–1 that there was a substantial public interest in releasing redacted material; Biden had the option of seeking further review but instead voluntarily dismissed his case.

  • Biden will not appeal the ruling on his ghostwriter recordings.
  • Redacted tapes and transcripts can now be released.
  • The material featured in the classified-documents investigation.
