Jack Rooke is developing a “fun comedy drama” about the Spice Girls, with a script already written, though the project has not yet been confirmed for production. The Big Boys creator hopes the group will approve it and wants to make a broad comedy that moves beyond the conventional music-biopic format.

Rooke said the Spice Girls symbolised working-class women pursuing major ambitions in British pop culture, while recognising the commercial machinery surrounding them. The project comes during the 30th anniversary of ‘Wannabe’, amid renewed interest in the group despite no planned reunion tour; the band previously starred in the 1997 film Spice World.
