Bill Nighy Joins Caitriona Balfe in Alfonso Cuaron Series ‘Ascension’ at Apple TV

Bill Nighy has joined Alfonso Cuarón’s horror thriller series *Ascension* for Apple TV, starring alongside Caitríona Balfe. The casting adds an Oscar-nominated actor to the adaptation of Adam Nevill’s novel *Last Days*, though Nighy’s character has not been disclosed.

Balfe plays Rose, a recently divorced mother and documentary filmmaker who investigates a mysterious 20th-century cult called the Church of Ascension. The project initially offers Rose refuge, but she uncovers something more sinister beneath its teachings. Cuarón co-wrote and executive produces; Natalie Erika James and Christian White are co-showrunners, with James directing.
