US officials say extensive oversight mechanisms are protecting the billions of dollars in American aid sent to Ukraine, even as corruption investigations shake President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's inner circle. Several senior Ukrainian officials have resigned, been dismissed or come under investigation since late 2025, raising questions about governance in Kyiv at a time when Western nations continue funnelling substantial military and financial support to the country's war effort against Russia.

The US has committed $67.8 billion in defence assistance to Ukraine since February 2022, with roughly $195 billion appropriated overall for the broader war response, and more than 24 federal agencies are involved in overseeing how it is spent. Recent departures include presidential office aide Andriy Yermak, deputy office head Iryna Mudra, former deputy prime minister Olha Stefanishyna and ex-defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov, several tied to probes by Ukraine's independent anti-corruption bodies. Zelenskyy has moved quickly to remove implicated officials and insists the investigations do not implicate him personally, saying anti-corruption agency heads have "zero questions" for him.
