Bills release Super Bowl champion safety after serving suspension for spitting incident
The Buffalo Bills released safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson on Tuesday after he served a suspension for spitting at two Baltimore Ravens players. The move ends his brief spell with Buffalo and means he will not return to the starting line-up, despite the coach previously saying he expected Gardner-Johnson to resume his role.
Gardner-Johnson was ejected during the Bills’ Week 6 win over the Las Vegas Raiders and missed their Week 8 victory over Baltimore while suspended; the team had a bye in between. He started all six games for Buffalo, recording 26 tackles and one interception, and his roster spot went to defensive back Te’Cory Couch. The 28-year-old has played for six teams in eight seasons and won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024.
