Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan met streamer Clavicular while both were recording at a studio used by Howie Mandel’s podcast. During their roughly six-minute conversation, Corgan explained that alternative rock emerged in the 1990s as a more emotionally honest form of rock music, after Clavicular appeared unfamiliar with both Corgan and the genre. The encounter attracted attention because of the unlikely meeting between an established musician and a young, internet-famous manosphere personality.

Clavicular had been livestreaming a podcast recording with Mandel when he was shown around the studio, where Corgan was also working on his own podcast. He discussed his recurring ideas about avoiding sex to focus on making money and improving his appearance, prompting Corgan to jokingly describe this as “maturitymaxxing”. Corgan also contrasted his decades-long music career with Clavicular’s suggestion that he could rebrand other people’s music under his own name, which amused both Corgan and Mandel.
