A new Siena University poll shows Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul’s lead over Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman narrowing as New York’s gubernatorial election approaches. The result suggests Blakeman has gained some ground, although Hochul remains ahead, while the poll also indicates that likely voters view the Democratic Socialists of America more negatively than positively.

The survey gave the Democratic Socialists of America a 30% favourable rating and a 47% unfavourable rating among likely voters. With fewer than three months until polling day, the findings add context to the contest over Hochul’s record, Blakeman’s challenge and the influence of progressive politics in New York.
