Blocky zombie survival sim Unturned releases its source code so players can build a ‘lasting legacy’ for the game ‘regardless of the changes we make’

PC Gamer · 2 hours ago

Unturned’s developer has released the game’s project files, allowing players to create their own versions, modifications and potentially major conversions of the blocky zombie survival game. The move is intended to let the community preserve and extend Unturned over the long term, even if the official game changes or development priorities shift.

The developer says the official Steam version will continue receiving content updates and bug fixes, while it hopes to keep the public code aligned with it. BattlEye’s Unturned-specific anti-cheat code remains private, but the studio argues that public source files add little new value to cheat makers because decompiled versions and code documentation already exist; publishing derivative works on Steam is intended to be supported where possible.

  • Unturned’s source files are now available to the community.
  • Players can build mods, variants and total conversions.
  • Official updates and anti-cheat support continue separately.
