Daley Pearson’s film draws on grief for his brother and childhood nostalgia
Daley Pearson’s new Netflix family film, *Allen*, follows a man still fixated on the alien friend who left him as a child. Through that story, the Ludo Studio co-founder explores how clinging to the past can stop someone from moving forward, drawing on his own experience of loss.
Pearson’s older brother Liam died of cancer when Pearson was 13; Liam was 26 and, Pearson says, his best friend. He describes the film as connected to the feeling of wanting something lost back so badly that life stands still. Co-directed with Jeffrey Walker and co-written with Sophie Miller, *Allen* also draws heavily on the films, toys and games Pearson loved growing up, including *E.T.*
