Former Disney chief executive Bob Chapek has written a memoir, “Behind the Castle Walls”, examining his rise, turbulent tenure and 2022 dismissal. Due for release on 29 September, the book matters because it promises his first detailed public account of leadership decisions at Disney during a period of pandemic disruption and corporate upheaval.

Chapek succeeded Bob Iger in February 2020 but was removed by Disney’s board in November 2022, with Iger returning as chief executive; the publisher says Chapek questions whether he became a scapegoat. The 272-page book covers his three decades at Disney, from joining as home-entertainment marketing director in 1993 through senior roles in consumer products and parks, while Disney previously said changing economic and industry conditions required different leadership.
