Body found in search for teen, 18, who vanished after a night out – as police probe ‘unexplained’ death

Daily Mail ·

Eighteen-year-old James Corlett, who went missing after a night out in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, has been found dead. Leicestershire Police are investigating his death as unexplained, and say further enquiries are continuing.

Corlett travelled from his home in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, to Ashby-de-la-Zouch on 29 October and had not contacted family or friends since that evening. Derbyshire Police began the missing-person inquiry before it was transferred to Leicestershire Police when information suggested he remained in the area. His family have been informed and are being supported by officers; South Derbyshire MP Samantha Niblett asked people to share kind words and avoid speculation.

Explained simply

Ashby-de-la-Zouch is a town in Leicestershire, close to the Derbyshire border, and Swadlincote is nearby. James Corlett travelled from Swadlincote to Ashby on 29 October; after he lost contact with family and friends, Derbyshire Police began looking for him.

The inquiry moved to Leicestershire Police when information suggested he was still in the county. His family have been informed and are receiving support. Police investigations into unexplained deaths seek to establish what happened; the description does not itself identify a cause or indicate that a crime has occurred.
