Hundreds of fans gathered in Mumbles, near Swansea, to pay tribute as Bonnie Tyler’s coffin was brought back to Wales, draped in a Welsh flag. The singer, best known for “Total Eclipse of the Heart”, died aged 75 in Portugal last month, and the turnout reflected her lasting importance to Welsh fans and international pop music.

Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins in Skewen, had been hospitalised in Faro for emergency intestinal surgery in May. Her career included three Grammy nominations, representing the UK at Eurovision in 2013 and an MBE in 2022; “Total Eclipse of the Heart” topped UK and US charts and has exceeded one billion streams.
