Funk pioneer Bootsy Collins has announced his first memoir, Funked Around, Found Out, due for release on 23 March 2027. Co-written with pop culture historian Caseen Gaines, the book charts the 74-year-old bassist's five-decade career, from his early days in his native Cincinnati through to his enduring status as one of funk's most influential figures. Its publication matters as a rare first-person account from one of the genre's key architects, offering insight into pivotal moments in Black American music history.

The memoir traces Collins' journey with his brother Phelps "Catfish" Collins from their band the Pacemakers into James Brown's backing group, the JB's, before the pair went on to join George Clinton's Parliament-Funkadelic collective. It reportedly includes striking anecdotes, such as being targeted by a member of Florida's Black Mafia Family and an incident in which the LAPD mistook Parliament-Funkadelic for escaped convicts. The book will also examine Collins' complex relationships with both Clinton and Brown, and features a foreword from long-time collaborator Snoop Dogg.
