Borderlands 4 Story Pack 2 DLC Adds New Island and John Wick-Inspired Story
Gearbox Software has revealed FL4K and the Last Resort, the second Story Pack DLC for Borderlands 4, due for release on 10 September as a $19.99 add-on. In a video interview with Polygon, the development team explained that the expansion introduces a wholly new island location and reintroduces FL4K, the Beastmaster character from Borderlands 3, marking a significant post-launch content push roughly a year after the base game's debut.
The DLC is set on a new island called Providence, a jungle-covered location distinct from the base game's Kairos map, featuring newly designed plants, a purple-tinted colour scheme and an active volcano that triggers smoke plumes and increased monster spawns. Drawing visual inspiration from The Lost World and Lord of the Flies, the story sees players help FL4K, who has been redesigned to suit the tropical setting, track down Tediore forces led by Lieutenant Harmony after they kidnap FL4K's dog, Mr Chew — a plot the developers say was directly inspired by John Wick. Art director Chris Neely said the team aimed to keep the Borderlands aesthetic while giving the setting its own distinct, edgier identity.
