Boston Scientific, the US medical device maker, has disclosed a cyberattack that caused "global disruption" to its operations, according to a filing with US securities regulators. The company detected the incident affecting its IT systems on Tuesday and is now working with third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate and contain the threat, though it has not said whether ransomware was involved or whether any data was stolen.

The breach has disrupted access to information systems and business applications, including the firm's ability to process and ship customer orders, and Boston Scientific says it has no timeline for full restoration or clear picture of the incident's operational and financial impact. Its shares fell more than 4% on the news, and no group had claimed responsibility at the time of writing. The attack follows similar incidents at other medtech firms this year, including Stryker, hit in March by a group linked to Iranian intelligence, and Medtronic, which disclosed a breach in April that data-theft gang ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for, later confirming patient data including names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers had been stolen.
