A 17-year-old has been charged with additional offences after a shooting in Charlotte, North Carolina, killed four-year-old Caleb Flax as he slept at home. Police say the attack involved seven armed people firing into several occupied homes, and that the suspects may have been seeking retaliation for a shooting the previous day.

The new charges against Ian Garland include firearm possession by a minor, property damage, assaults with a deadly weapon, shooting into occupied homes, conspiracy and attempted vehicle theft. An affidavit says at least 84 shots were fired into four homes and three parked cars shortly before 3am on 20 September; another person was seriously injured. Three other teenagers have also been charged as adults, while a 22-year-old is accused of helping dispose of a stolen car.
