Boy Harsher have announced their new album 'Get Mean', released on 18 September via Atlantic, and shared its latest single, 'Hard Beat'. The record marks the electronic duo's first full-length release since 2019's 'Country Girl Uncut' and 2022's soundtrack to The Runner, with its 12 tracks exploring grief, heartbreak, loss and survival following the end of members Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller's romantic relationship in early 2024.
'Hard Beat', built around thumping synths and haunting vocals, addresses surveillance, deviance and trauma, and arrives with a music video co-directed by the band and cinematographer Owen Smith-Clark; it follows previously released single 'Jeans', also featured on the album. The duo said the record blends their established synth-driven sound with new elements such as detuned pads, guitar textures and pop inflections. They will support 'Get Mean' with a North American headline tour beginning in Hudson on 25 September and taking in Montreal, Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New Orleans, while also working on a debut feature film, The Lonely Woman, starring Chloë Sevigny, FKA twigs and Sturgill Simpson.

Boy Harsher are an American electronic duo made up of Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller, known for a dark, synth-driven sound. They have not released a full album since 2019, aside from a 2022 film soundtrack, so a new record is a significant moment for fans of the genre.
The new album, called Get Mean, comes after Matthews and Muller ended their romantic relationship in early 2024, though they continue to work together as a band. Its songs are reported to deal with themes of grief, heartbreak and survival, giving context to why the record has been described in more personal terms than their earlier work.
Beyond the album, the duo are also expanding into film, with a debut feature reportedly in the works featuring well-known actors and musicians. This places the album release within a wider push by the band into new creative territory alongside their music.
