A 12-year-old boy was hospitalised after being struck by an electric bike in a hit-and-run in Thurnscoe, Barnsley. The collision happened on Houghton Road on Thursday evening as the child was reportedly crossing the road, and the rider fled, prompting a police appeal for information.

South Yorkshire Police said officers believed they found the bike shortly afterwards. The boy suffered a fractured skull and broken ankle, while Dearne and District Football Club confirmed he was one of its players and was receiving hospital treatment.
