Brazilian Camara to join Haas for F1 debut in 2027
Haas have signed Brazilian Rafael Camara for his Formula 1 debut in 2027, after selecting him from a group of four drivers. The move gives the 21-year-old a route to F1 while he leads the Formula 2 championship, and adds a young Ferrari Driver Academy member to the US-based team.
Camara was assessed alongside Leonardo Fornaroli and Ryo Hirakawa at Portimao in August, while Jack Doohan was tested separately; evaluations used cars from previous F1 seasons. Haas have not confirmed their second driver for 2027, though Oliver Bearman is expected to continue, while Esteban Ocon will leave at the end of this year after two seasons with the team.

Formula 1 is the top level of international single-seater motor racing, while Formula 2 is the series below it, where drivers compete for a place in F1. Brazilian Rafael Camara is a member of Ferrari’s driver development programme, which supports young racers and can help them progress towards F1.
Haas is a US-based F1 team that fields two drivers in each race. Its line-up can change as teams weigh drivers’ experience, results and future potential; Camara’s progress in Formula 2 is part of the context for his move.
