His manager was cited as confirming that he died at his Los Angeles home, although no cause of death was given. Reports said Curry had lived with major mobility difficulties after a stroke in 2012.
Curry became internationally recognised as Dr Frank-N-Furter, first in Richard O’Brien’s stage musical The Rocky Horror Show and then in its 1975 film adaptation, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
