A British man has been arrested in Seville, southern Spain, after allegedly stabbing a taxi driver at least 16 times in a "frenzied" attack in the early hours of the morning. The cabbie, who managed to drive himself to police headquarters despite his injuries, received emergency treatment and is not believed to be in life-threatening danger, though he remains in hospital. The suspect is expected to face an attempted murder charge.

The attack took place around 2am at an industrial estate after the passenger reportedly asked to be driven first to a shopping centre and then to the industrial site, where he stabbed the driver repeatedly over several minutes after the driver grew suspicious and refused to continue the journey. The knife reportedly broke during the assault, with the handle found in the taxi and the blade recovered nearby. Police arrested the suspect, who had blood on him and resisted arrest, and he is due before a judge by Monday at the latest to determine whether he is remanded in custody or released on bail.
