An 18-year-old from North Wales has been hospitalised in China following a serious crash during a 6,000-mile charity bicycle ride to Thailand. Dyfan Hughes, from Llangollen, was cycling with friends Louis Dennis and James Thomas, both 19, to raise money for the British Heart Foundation when the accident occurred, prompting his companions to share the news with worried followers online.

Hughes suffered injuries to his head, neck and leg but has been described as stable and is being treated in what his friends called "one of the best places in the world" for such injuries. The trio set off from Wrexham a year ago and were passing through China en route to Chiang Mai when the crash happened; they announced the incident via Facebook, saying they "didn't expect to be making this post."
