British tourist, 24, died from peanut allergic reaction after consuming churro and hot chocolate in Argentine cafe, inquest hears

Daily Mail ·

British tourist Harry James Kitto, 24, died after suffering a severe allergic reaction in a Buenos Aires café, an inquest in Truro heard. He and his girlfriend were reportedly reassured twice that churros did not contain peanuts, despite his severe allergy, raising questions about how allergy information was checked and communicated.

The couple left Café Tortoni and travelled towards their accommodation, where Kitto’s EpiPen was, but he began struggling to breathe before they reached it. His girlfriend found him unconscious and gave him the injector; paramedics arrived about ten minutes after an ambulance was called and administered adrenaline. Kitto was resuscitated and placed on a ventilator, but doctors found his brain damage irreversible. He died on 7 November 2025, surrounded by family.
