A 34-year-old British woman was stabbed to death in a corridor of the Alfagar Alto Da Colina aparthotel in Albufeira, Portugal, on Tuesday evening, reportedly in front of her child. Her partner, a man of the same age, was arrested at the scene covered in blood and remains in police custody, with the case now being treated as murder. The attack has shocked guests at the family-orientated resort and comes amid a run of violent incidents in the popular Algarve tourist hub.

Police were called to the four-star resort just after 6.30pm, where they found the woman with multiple stab wounds; attempts to revive her failed and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The child, who is believed to have witnessed the attack, has been placed into temporary care, while the Policia Judiciaria has taken over the investigation from the GNR. The suspect is expected to appear before a judge shortly to be remanded in custody. The killing follows another recent incident in Albufeira in which a drunk driver allegedly struck several pedestrians, including an 18-year-old woman, on the town's Oura party strip.
