Broadway Box Office: ‘Titanique’ Hits New High, ‘Oh, Mary!’ Jumps As Bowen Yang Takes Over

The Hollywood Reporter · 2 hours ago

Broadway's box office saw notable movements this week as several shows experienced significant changes in revenue and audience engagement. Titanique concluded its limited run with record-breaking performance, whilst Oh, Mary! surged following Bowen Yang's casting debut in the role of Mary Todd Lincoln. These shifts highlight both the appeal of novelty productions and the considerable influence celebrity casting can exert on ticket sales and audience interest on Broadway.

Hamilton remained the week's highest earner, followed by The Lion King at approximately £1.4 million and MJ at £1.6 million, whilst Titanique achieved £1.3 million in its final week at near-capacity crowds with an average ticket price of £127. Oh, Mary! generated £1.5 million with average ticket prices rising substantially from £160 to £212 following Yang's arrival on 15 September. The data demonstrated the star power effect clearly: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child's grosses fell by over £570,000 to just under £1 million during Tom Felton's scheduled absence, whilst most shows experienced a post-Labor Day boost with Schmigadoon! and The Lost Boys both improving their weekly revenues.

  • Titanique and Oh, Mary! achieved record weekly grosses as their runs/cast changes drew audiences.
  • Celebrity casting significantly impacts Broadway box office revenue and ticket pricing.
  • Most shows benefited from increased attendance following the Labor Day period.
