Venus Twins, the New York punk duo made up of identical brothers Jake and Matt Derting, appear on Olivia Rodrigo’s “Expectations” remix video with Chappell Roan. They play contestants on Rodrigo’s team in a Family Feud-style game show, bringing underground punk performers into a high-profile pop production.
A casting agent contacted the brothers about a video shoot without initially naming the artist; they learnt it was Rodrigo and Roan the night before filming. At a warehouse studio in Astoria, Queens, they spent about an hour in hair and make-up, where their hair was styled into liberty spikes, and met Rodrigo and David Byrne. The brothers were struck by the production’s scale, with about 100 people on set, compared with the small crews they are used to.
