Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson has revealed that his upcoming eighth solo album will be a heavy, standalone work largely unconnected to "The Mandrake Project", his long-running multimedia concept combining a solo record with a 12-issue comic book series. Speaking to VSX at San Diego Comic-Con, Dickinson explained that he now sees "The Mandrake Project" story as able to stand on its own within the comic book format, freeing his next album to explore a heavier sound rather than continuing the narrative thread musically.

The new record, tentatively due in early 2027 via BMG, was largely recorded in January and February at Dave Grohl's Studio 606 in California with producer Brendan Duffey, who is now mixing it at his Florida studio. Dickinson has said the album will feature a collaboration with his son Austin, a musician formerly of Rise to Remain and As Lions, and that some tracks and several music videos will surface later this year ahead of a busier 2027. Bruce previously said in April that he recorded 16 songs for the album over a three-week period.
