Bruce Springsteen revealed at a Pan-Mass Challenge gala that his wife and E Street Band bandmate Patti Scialfa is now in remission from multiple myeloma, a blood cancer she has lived with for more than eight years. The announcement came in an eight-minute prerecorded video supporting the annual cycling fundraiser for cancer research and treatment at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where he praised the doctors and nurses who cared for her.

Scialfa, 73, was diagnosed with the disease in 2018 and spoke about it publicly in the couple's 2024 documentary "Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band." Springsteen, 76, used the speech to thank healthcare workers broadly and to warn against cuts to medical research funding under the Trump administration, saying such research "isn't an idea, it isn't politics, it isn't a line in a budget."
