Bruce Springsteen has revealed that his wife and E Street Band bandmate, Patti Scialfa, is now in remission from the blood cancer she has been fighting for eight years. He shared the news during a video broadcast on 1 August for a fundraiser supporting the Pan-Mass Challenge bike race, which raises money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, where Scialfa had been treated. The announcement matters both as welcome personal news for the couple and as a reminder of the wider importance of cancer research funding, a point Springsteen emphasised directly in his remarks.

Scialfa, who turned 73 on 29 July, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare form of blood cancer, in 2018, though the couple only made the diagnosis public in 2024 via the documentary "Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band". In the video, Springsteen thanked the doctors and nurses who treated her and other patients, calling medical research "the reason families find hope when hope seems hardest to find", before performing an acoustic version of "Born to Run". Scialfa, a member of the E Street Band since 1984 and married to Springsteen since 1991, has appeared only occasionally on stage since her diagnosis.
