Stereogum ·

Philadelphia post-metal band Bruise Bath have announced their second self-titled album, following their 2017 debut of the same name. The record marks a new chapter for the group, which began a decade ago as a solo project for singer-guitarist Zak Krone before evolving into a full band with a shifting line-up over the years.

The new self-produced album, due for release on 6th November via Strange Mono, features eight tracks including lead single "Blood On My Tongue", which blends slowcore passages with bursts of metallic intensity. The band have also announced a short East Coast tour running from 30th July to 8th August, taking in cities including New York, Boston, Pittsburgh and Akron.

Bruise Bath are a band from Philadelphia who grew out of a solo project by singer-guitarist Zak Krone, which he started roughly a decade ago. Over time, Krone brought in other musicians to form a full band, though the membership has changed over the years.

The band create heavy rock music characterised by a blend of quieter, more melancholic sections and sudden bursts of heavier, more intense music. This dynamic approach has become a defining feature of their style.

Bruise Bath released their first self-titled album in 2017, and the release of a second self-titled record suggests they are moving into a new creative phase. When established bands return to a self-titled format, it often indicates a significant shift in their artistic direction.
