‘Bruno’s as good as ever’ – Carrick backs Man Utd captain

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has backed captain Bruno Fernandes, saying the midfielder remains “as good as ever” and his commitment to the club is undoubted. Their relationship had come under scrutiny after Fernandes criticised Carrick and his staff following a heavy European defeat and was dropped for the next match.

Fernandes returned to the side, scored a retaken penalty and helped spark a second-half comeback against Roma. He disputed reports of “clear-the-air talks”, while Carrick declined to discuss their private conversations. United have won only once in nine games, and face Aston Villa on Sunday; without a win, they will spend the international break in the Premier League relegation zone.
