Building collapses in Sydney leaving three people trapped under rubble
A floor inside a two-storey building in Arncliffe, south Sydney, collapsed shortly after 9am on Thursday, leaving three people briefly trapped. Emergency crews freed them, and all three suffered minor injuries; one was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
The trapped people were a woman in her 20s and two men in their 30s. NSW Ambulance supervisor Cara Low said heavy boxes had been above them and described them as lucky. A fourth person was assessed at the scene for minor injuries.
In short
- Three people were briefly trapped after a floor collapsed in Arncliffe.
- Emergency crews freed them, with only minor injuries reported.
- One person was taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition.
Explained simply
Arncliffe is a suburb in south Sydney, in the state of New South Wales. A two-storey building has separate levels, so a collapse inside it can leave people below parts of the structure or nearby materials.
Emergency services in New South Wales include firefighters and ambulance crews, who respond to building accidents and assess injuries. The condition of a building matters to workers and residents because structural failures can cause harm even when those involved are not seriously injured.
