Burnley have signed former Sheffield United centre-back John Egan, adding an experienced international defender to their squad after relegation to the Championship. The move is significant because Egan brings leadership and extensive second-tier and Premier League experience as the Clarets look to strengthen their defence and compete for promotion.

The Republic of Ireland international joined as a free agent after leaving Sheffield United, where he made more than 200 appearances across six seasons and helped secure two promotions to the Premier League. Egan, who has more than 30 senior caps for Ireland, had been recovering from an Achilles injury that limited his involvement during his final season with the Blades.
