Byron Allen Donates $100,000 to Nolan Wells Family’s GoFundMe as Tyler Perry Covers Funeral Costs

Variety · 1 month ago

Media mogul and late-night host Byron Allen has donated $100,000 to a GoFundMe set up by the family of Nolan Xavier Wells, an 18-year-old found dead after disappearing during the July 4 holiday. Wells vanished during a boating trip with friends to Mississippi's Horn Island, and his death has prompted suspicion and unanswered questions, drawing support from a number of high-profile figures.

The GoFundMe, launched earlier in the week to assist Wells's family, had raised $574,719 towards a $750,000 goal as of Saturday afternoon, with other donors including comedian Lil Rel Howery and Auburn quarterback Deuce Knight. At a Friday press conference, attorney Ben Crump announced that Tyler Perry had agreed to cover funeral costs while Colin Kaepernick would pay for an independent autopsy, and the Rev. Al Sharpton will handle the funeral service. According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Wells was last seen on the island at around 3 p.m. on 4 July and did not return with the group; his mother, Christine Wonsley, reported him missing that night, prompting a search involving local, state and federal agencies as well as volunteers from the United Cajun Navy.
