The Call of Duty social media team accidentally posted an internal marketing image for the upcoming Modern Warfare 4, prompting fans to speculate that it may have been AI-generated. The image showed a soldier walking towards the camera to promote the game's Gamescom appearance, but observers noticed the soldier's gun appeared unusually warped. This fuels ongoing concern among the Call of Duty community about Activision's use of generative AI in its marketing and game assets.

The graphic was quickly removed, with a Call of Duty representative explaining it was a "temporary render from a marketing style guide" that had been posted by mistake and was not taken from the game itself. Activision has previously disclosed on the game's Steam page that it uses generative AI tools for some assets, including calling cards in Black Ops 7, which sparked backlash in November 2025. Following that controversy, Activision said it uses "a variety of digital tools, including AI tools" to support its creative teams, though many fans remain sceptical and are watching closely for AI-generated content when Modern Warfare 4's beta launches this weekend, ahead of the game's October release.
