AI-managed heating cut gas use by 18% in two-year home test
A two-year comparison found that AI-managed heating cut gas use by 18% while making the home more comfortable. The test suggests room-by-room smart controls can reduce bills, though results may differ depending on how efficiently a household already manages its heating.
The tester compared strict manual controls with a Tado X system in a 1930s house, using the same 213-day period in each winter and adjusting for hot water. Consumption fell from 14,316.7 kWh to 11,735.7 kWh, a reduction of 2,581 kWh and an estimated £205.70 at the cited energy price cap. The system cost about £930, plus around £80 for boiler wiring and an optional AI subscription of £29.99 a year.
In short
- AI-managed heating used 18% less gas in the test.
- The household saved an estimated £205.70 over 213 days.
- The smart system cost about £930, plus installation and subscription.
